She Chose Survival Over Love And Sought Closure
A woman explains why she left the man she loved for someone who could support her family. She asks for understanding, forgiveness, and one final meeting to bring peaceful closure to their relationship.
Dear Collins,
I want to express my gratitude for all the wonderful moments you brought into my life. You were truly amazing and dedicated yourself fully to our relationship. I recognized your efforts and felt the love in your eyes every day we spent together. Unfortunately, for some of us, love alone isn’t enough to sustain us; we need more.
As the eldest of three siblings, I find myself in a position where I have to care for our mother, who isn’t doing well, as well as support my other siblings. It pains me to say this, but I can’t rely solely on your love to get by. That’s why I agreed to be with Kobby. He cares for me, and in time, I hope to develop feelings for him as well. For now, he meets my needs, allowing me to send money home to my mom and provide for my siblings.
Please don’t judge me; perhaps you would have made the same choice in my situation. I ask that you refrain from telling your friends I’m a gold digger. Remember the good times we had and respect my name. I did what I needed to do to survive. Kobby isn’t a bad person; it’s not his fault I chose him over you, nor is it his fault he can support me while you cannot. You have love, and I admire you for that. Kobby offers love and stability until I can stand on my own. So, view our breakup as a means of survival rather than a betrayal on my part.
There are countless women in the world; I won’t be your last. You will find someone better suited for you, someone who understands your need for love and can provide it. In time, you will marry again, and with your kind heart, you’ll create a happy family and home. Let your future excite you more than our past brings you sorrow. When you pray, please remember me; I’m not your enemy, just a girl who was part of your life for a season.
One day, when we’re older, this breakup won’t matter. I doubt it will even make it onto your list of cherished memories. Life is about growth. We create memories today to pave the way for better ones tomorrow. If you give even half the love you showed me to your next partner, she will be happy and consider you the best thing that ever happened to her. I challenge you to do just that.
Kobby just messaged me; he’s traveling this weekend, so I’ll be free. If you’d like to meet, we can talk about whatever is on your mind. You can express your feelings, even if it means being angry or calling me names. It could be a perfect opportunity for closure, allowing us both to leave without hatred or resentment, as we would have had the chance to express everything. We spent two years together, and I believe we owe each other that much a proper closure.
Call me when you read this.
Yours, Annette
