He Promised Forever While Hiding A Secret Wife
After painful heartbreaks Cynthia opens her heart to a charming younger man she meets online. Their connection feels real until a Valentine visit exposes a devastating truth that changes everything about love trust and deception.
Francis got married five years ago, and now he has a lovely family—a daughter, a son, and a beautiful wife. Just months before his wedding, I was his girlfriend. We had dated for two years, but I didn’t see the signs. He severed ties with me and later explained, “I don’t think this is going to work. Look at us; we’re so different in every way. It would be hard for us to make it.”
I couldn’t grasp his reasoning. I didn’t notice the differences he mentioned, but that was enough for him to end things. A few months later, he married a woman who seemed quite similar to me.
It shattered me. For a long time, I felt paralyzed, convinced my life was over. When I finally realized it wasn’t, I contemplated ending it myself. Nothing made sense—love, life, relationships, giving your all—nothing. This hurt even more because it was the second time I had experienced such heartbreak.
The first time was with Eugene. He meant everything to me until one day he became nothing. His departure was dramatic; he just vanished! Sometimes I think back on it and laugh. We were young, so it was easier to forgive him.
After Francis, I resolved to take my time and approach life slowly. I didn’t want to rush into something that would eventually crumble, but life has a way of throwing unexpected things your way.
One morning, I received a message on Facebook: “It’s been a while. Are you so busy that you can’t even comment on my posts anymore?”
The message was from a guy I recognized from my timeline. He often posted funny content, and I usually chimed in with comments. When I saw his message, I smiled and replied, “Thanks for checking in on me. I haven’t been on Facebook much lately.”
We didn’t have much to discuss that day, but he continued to reach out from then on. He was funny and hard to ignore, so our conversations became a daily routine. Sometimes we’d chat late into the night, often without needing to say “Good night” because we’d talk until one of us fell asleep.
Before long, we were sharing personal stories and delving into each other’s past relationships. I could sense where things were heading, but I was so drawn to him that I didn’t want to stop it.
One night, I asked him, “How old are you?” He replied, “Twenty-seven.” I said, “I’m thirty-two. You see why love between us might not work?” He responded, “Someone has to be older in every relationship, and you’re lucky to be that one in ours,” followed by laughing emojis.
This guy could do no wrong in my eyes. That night, I invited him to visit me the next day. The following morning, he made a four-hour bus journey to see me. When he called to say he had arrived at the station, my heart raced. I was anxious about what to expect and whether he would still like me after meeting in person.
When I finally saw him, he embraced me tightly, almost lifting me off the ground. I thought, “Wow, he really likes me.” All my fears and insecurities melted away. That was when I realized my heart was in love again. We spent two days wrapped in each other’s arms, making plans, sharing jokes, laughing, and being intimate.
After he returned home, he sent me a message saying, “The best day of my life was the day I was born. The next best day was the time spent with you.” He expressed how much he enjoyed his visit and how he wanted to do it again and again. He even mentioned that I should prepare for our future together because marriage wouldn’t be far off.
It was my turn to visit him next, and we planned my trip to coincide with Valentine’s Day.
On the morning of Valentine’s Day, I set off to see him, carrying a hamper filled with all his favorite things. I couldn’t wait to recreate the magic of our last time together.
During the journey, I dozed off. When I arrived in town and checked my phone, I saw that he had called me multiple times. I called him back, smiling as I said, “I’m in town! You were calling because you couldn’t wait to see me?” He replied, “I’ll pick you up in fifteen minutes.”
Fifteen minutes passed, then twenty, then twenty-five, and finally thirty. That’s when I started to worry he was running late, so I called him. He didn’t answer the first call, nor the second. About five minutes later, I tried again, but his phone was off.
I kept calling, but each time I received the same message: “The number you’ve dialed cannot be reached…”
I believed he was on his way, but I was mistaken. He stood me up. After four hours of waiting without any word from him, I finally gave up and took a bus back home.
Fourteen days later, he called from a different number, offering long explanations for what had happened. I already knew the truth, so I wasn’t interested in his excuses.
I told him, “You’re a married man. Why didn’t you tell me the truth?” I found out that his wife had come home unexpectedly that day, which is why he stood me up. “What did I do to deserve this?”
I was on the verge of tears but didn’t want him to hear me cry, so I hung up before he could muster the courage to tell me another lie. He sent me messages apologizing and asking how he could make it up to me. I simply told him to stay away.
Today, I look back and feel grateful to his close friend who had compassion for me and revealed the truth. He saved me from myself and, more importantly, from a looming disaster.
