Words That Raised My Heavy Sunday
A day that started with me feeling cut off from the world and in pieces was turned around by my boss's few unexpected words that evening, leaving me with the feeling that I'm still important.
It was the first Sunday of the fall season last week, and I was feeling quite down when I woke up in the morning. The day was gray and rainy, and everything seemed unfriendly. It was if I was locked in a battle with unseen demons, and even my family was not enjoying my presence. It was exactly my mood last Sunday morning.

I rose up and dressed up for church, but my spirit was low. Have you ever experienced that feeling when your body is in one place but your mind in another, preventing you from crying while simultaneously trying to be strong? Although the sermon was powerful, the music was touching, yet one of the things I was trying to cover up came out. So I just sat pretending it was all right.
After the church service, I didn’t want to go back home. The church had not been a welcoming place for me lately. So, I took a stroll around the city with no destination in mind. At times during the week my work keeps me so busy that I feel like I’m waiting for Sunday just to have a moment to breathe, but this particular Sunday really felt heavy on my shoulder and I did not know how to deal with it.
I was on my walk when I saw my boss at the other place where he works. He is a businessman who has two ventures: one that I manage and the other that he runs personally. Interestingly, I had never been to his other location until that day.
I thought it polite to say hello to him. I did not know that a simple “Hello” would be the start of a complete transformation of my day. When he smiled at me and spoke, it was like a light had been turned on in a dark spot inside me.
He said:
"I feel proud of you.'"
"You're doing an amazing job with everything."
"I have nothing to complain about."
"It will be hard for me to let you go."
Only those words.
Often just that is needed someone to see your toil, to recognize your worth, to give you a token of gratitude for your presence. A person who makes you feel important, even when the people you expect the most from do not say it.
My mood changed completely by the end of the day. I went home with a lighter feeling and a smile on my face. At least there is one person out there who sees me, one who values me, one who makes me feel not only useful but also loved in his own way.
And this was what made my Sunday a happy one.
