Liberating Myself from My Family's Generational Curse

I fought a generational curse of poverty and divorces but got liberated by faith and my close relationship with God.

Liberating Myself from My Family's Generational Curse

I would like to express my views on Edward's tale about spending the night with a girl under a tree. There seemed to be a number of contributors who were perfectly alright with the mixing of Christian and non-Christian gods, even saying, "What is Caesar's let Caesar take," while totally missing the point of the sentence. Therefore, I was left no choice but to tell my story.

The aspect of relationships has become quite worrying in my family, particularly, my mother's line. Their marriages usually end in chaos. A lot of her siblings have never been married, and those who have are either going through a divorce or have already lost their partners. Among my mother's eleven siblings, there isn't a single one with an intact marriage.

Another thing that has been noticed is poverty. Nobody in the family seems to be in a prosperous situation. All are living from hand to mouth. The reason is not that they are lazy; they have changed their jobs every now and then, done different kinds of businesses, but still, nothing works for them.

I was curious to know more, so I started to ask questions. It turned out that my great-grandfather had made an offer/devotion to a god. The cycle of sin has been going on with his offspring and grandchildren ever since.

I became aware of this after I finished my secondary education. Initially, I did not think that I would go to the university, considering the financial barrier. Based on God's favor, I managed to pass all my exams and get admitted. It was not easy to pay my school fees at the start. We asked and begged everyone we could. After the first year, I was not sure what to do next, so I decided to work and save up for my second year's tuition.

Still, the family pattern came back. I was not able to achieve anything. I became a skilled worker, but the clients never showed up. Those that did would make a promise to come back, but when the time of payment came, they were nowhere to be found. After some time, I got a position as a salesgirl, but not a single item was sold during the period I worked there. Customers came, tried the goods, gave reasons, and went away without buying. Even my boss’s regular customers ceased to come. That was when I became aware of the fact that I was the one to blame.

Frustration engulfed me as I almost reached the point of quitting school. I went to many pastors for advice, but none of them gave me a permanent solution. Then I heard about my aunt and two uncles who had tried to do the god thing. My aunt died under strange circumstances. One uncle was sent back to the village to perform rites, but he also died. The other went through becoming sick for a long time.

I wished that my story would be different. I was in need of a deliverance, but I was not sure how to go about it. One day I cried my eyes out in my room, and prayer was the only thing I could do, "God, please help me." It was a long day for me sitting on my bed and saying those words over and over again. And guess what? God did respond.

What I am saying is that I would rather speak to God directly and not be moving around pastors. I read the Bible, and did deep studying of Christian books, and prayed persistently. Little by little, my bond with God became stronger and through God, I got my freedom.

I am a graduate now. It was me who paid for my education. Now I own a prosperous business. I am the first in my family to liberate myself from that generational pattern. My family couldn’t believe it. My experience became a witness. The faith of my father in God increased, and can you believe it? He also has now won over that curse.

To the Christians reading this, the quote is to be remembered: “Nazareth! Can anything good come out of there?” The answer is positive.

I want to say the following to Edward: the devil gives no good things for free. He presents one hand and snatches both of yours, plus your legs and eyes. You didn’t have to go to the village to confront that issue. It is a pity that you took wrong advice. I do not hold it against you; I comprehend that you acted on the basis of the information you had. But please, do not pass this conflict on to your kids. The devil does not give free gifts.

You have to awake and conquer by the Word of God. Go down on your knees and fight for your children and for the coming generations. Do not allow them to take whatever you made as an offering to that god on their behalf. Cut off that bondage now, so your daughter and son may be liberated.
