I Help A Sick Man To Feed Through The Window
A man stumbling with diabetes is repeatedly mistreated by his wife, a mistake of the neighbor during a heartfelt episode that teaches that affectionate love is selfless.
A married couple lives right next door to me. Richard, the husband, was already living at this place, which he rented about a year before their marriage. Then, later on, his wife came and lived with him. I wasn't really that friendly with Richard, but I would always say hello and call him "bro." In fact, he was a mild, soft-spoken man.
Only when I got the news that he had fallen sick and was taking the care of his parents did I start to see him a bit more. I was hoping that somehow Pansy, his wife, would get my message across to Richard. Then she told me that Richard's condition was getting better and he might return home any time soon. So, I decided to pay him a visit the day he came back. Richard had a bad fall and consequently, he had a problem moving around. We said a little, he showed his appreciation by saying it out loud and I took my leave.

Not very long after that, I started to hear their room filled with yelling. Often, I thought he was getting torture like medication plus, crying in agony, so I was not bothered by the sound of his sob. Then one time, as I passed their door, he shouted, "who's there? please assist me".
The door was double-locked so I looked through the glass to see if he could answer. He looked all hot and sweaty. The smell in the room was so bad that it seemed like he had urinated. He then said, "Can you please bring me some food, I am thirsty?".
I went back to him with the food and water and kept on looking at him eating as if he had survived on nothing for a long time. His wife used to come and feed him while he was on a stoll, still he could not walk properly. He could hardly make a sound. When his wife came, I talked to her and told her about his condition. She looked at me and said, "He is a sick man who can't walk, so why do you want to see him?"
I didn't reply, but whatever had been making him shout, it will cease for a time. I wanted someone to chat with. I posed the question, "should I call the cops?" and he answered, "Don't worry, I am okay." I saw that he was acting. His wife would come home after a late night sometimes being dropped off by a white sedan at the end of my street.
I remember when I fed him through the window; he told me the next day his brother was to visit. He further mentioned that he would not be able to talk at all since his wife would not be around. He insisted that I should take the trouble of seeking his brother out and telling him everything. Well, that's precisely what I did. His brother burst out crying. "The day she informed me that Richard had no phone, I was certain something was wrong," he said.
Before going, he expressed his gratitude to me. The entire family came a few days later to fetch him. Tears streamed down my face as I witnessed it. When he saw me, he bowed his head, probably to conceal his tears too.
Since the day he left, his spouse has been with the guy driving the white sedan nearly every night. Occasionally, when I get up in the morning, I see the white car parked nearby. It's none of my business, but I am aware of what is going on. My sole desire is that Richard will recuperate and I can then say to him, "My friend, you have been away for a long time. Now that you are back, I have so much to tell you."
Brothers, choose wisely when it comes to women. A woman who is good can be all that; beautiful, nice in figure and so on, but way before you marry her, try to see what is in her heart and if she is kind. It will be the hands of mercy that will raise you up when you are down.
